Marshall YJM Amp, but which cab to fit with ????

The place to be when Bob means something more than just, well... Bob.

Postby yngwieaddict » Thu Aug 18, 2011 2:47 pm

Hello,

I just bought the new Marshall YJM 100 head.
I'm looking for a cab to go with, but I really want to stay in the "spirit" of Yngwie sound (I know that I need his hands ;-).
I know that he was using the G12H-30 speaker in the 80"...

Which 4x12 cab should I buy ?
Should I buy one with :
- G12H-30 (70th anniversary, not greenback)
- G12M-25 (greenback)
- Heritage Series G12H(55)(greenback)
- Heritage Series G12H(75)(greenback)

Thanks a lot for your help....

I have the YJM100 on order and I bought a Metro True Replica Cabinet loaded with U.K. Greenbacks waiting for its arrival, I'm more into the early Alcatrazz/Marching Out era. This amplifier should do a whole lot more than just that though. I am also considering trying the new Heritage G12H 75hz models as well, the 55hz models were a bit too much in the low end for me anyway.

Yes, as well as Uli Jon Roth I believe. No speaker break-up in those and too modern sounding for me.

absolutely, that's when all his music sounded like it belonged in a Rocky Soundtrack, now he's way too heavy but I still have the utmost respect for the man.

Never really found an amp that this speaker sounds good with. I have mixed it with a couple of things (V30, old GT65) and it sounded better but I find it honk-y and dull by it's lonesome.

How about 70's Blackbacks?

Dude! My EXACT experience with the G12H30. it tamed the V30 spike in a mixed 4x12, but at the end of the day it was sort of ho-hum

The 70's blackbacks however, give me a woody every time I plug in. I straight up sold my other 4x12 with the V30's & G12H30's

Don't get the 70th ann. H30's. I had a cameron 4x12 that had those speakers, and it made the Bogner v30 next to it sound like melted butter as opposed to the shrill grating of those speakers. They also go into cone cry sooner, and have a resonant frequency of 85HZ, so they do not have the bottom of a lot of other speakers, but they also lack the warmth of tone that say a greenback can get for you.

P.S. Take your head and go into some music stores and try some different things before reaching a conclusion on this.

Good idea :D !!!!!!!!!

If I understand (sorry for my poor english), don't buy the G12H 70th, but try the G12H -30 Heritage series ...??? That's right ????

And try other cab with different combination of Speakers...

I would go with the Heritage H30 75HZ, so far the reports on those have been pretty good. I will try them eventually myself, the other men are right about the H30 Anniversary, wouldn't be my choice.
