Spent some time with Teye...
Well I was in Austin so I dropped by Teye's place for a few hours. He was incredibly busy with moving into his new house and constructing his new workshop but he carved a few hours in for me.
What an excellent guy and an amazing life story he has. He truly is a renaissance man in the 21st century.
I can say, without hesitation, that his guitar is the best thing I have ever played. It's tonal variations are absolutely sick. I have no clue how he did it but you don't just have your conventional humbucker/split coil thing. You have all combinations in between. It's not just a push pull. The splitting is done with a pot. On 10 it's a humbucker, on 1 it's a single coil. On 5 it's right in between the two.
You can easily reach the 24th fret. I mean effortless.
Teye (prounounced Ti-ya by the way) also broke out a Zemaitis he had that Tony made for him a while ago. While the Z is an amazing piece of history and a wildly beautiful guitar sonically Teye's guitar destroyed it.
While I can't afford Teye's A series (I think he said they are now $9000 usd and with all the work in these things it's justified) I do have money down on one of his S series.
It was a fun night. I got to hang with a great guy, have some beers and play some amazing guitars. Life is good...
This is Teye himself playing his creation. Really great guitarist on top of it all.
