ADA STD-1

The place to be when Bob means something more than just, well... Bob.

Hey Guys,

A bud of mine has an A/DA STD-1 that he is wanting to get rid of, as he no longer plays. What would that thing be worth in today's wacky world of electronics?

Thanks!

Check ebay past sales, and the latest HC review prices, for starters. There are some people who love that damn box.

I would grab it if I were you (and if you love high quality, drippy 80's chorus sounds
ala Landau and the gang)

The price does vary if it's a broadcast version (balanced I/O) or not....

Plus I've seen STD-1's with both cheap looking plastic knobs and professional
spun aluminum knobs....

I'd never sell the two I own....

Cheers,

Jeff

It's a fantastic unit ! Buy it, you will not regret it 'cause it sounds better than most of the modern units...

I am bumping this as I just bought one for my L.A. Sound Design rack on Friday.

Could those owning this unit post a favorite setting including the Tap Assign toggles.

Thanks...

I love those old units!
Here's a huge warm and thick stereo chorus type of setting I use a lot:

Thanks Anje.

I am really looking forward to the rack revision. It is all out with David Phillips (rackdoctor) at L.A. Sound Design right now. I was going to do a Gilmour inspired rack but then the STD-1 and SBF-325 became available and I decided to do my own thing. Part Floyd, part Tool/APC, part Images & Words DT and part L.A. big rack-era.

Really think the STD-1 will complement the 1210 nicely and/or run simultaneously with the 1210 for over the top chorus with huge stereo width.

Plus the big guns of the 2290 with Swerdfeger classic presets from the LAB Systems era and the PCM70 loaded with Italo's amazing preset library affectionately dubbed "atmorgasm" should complete the picture.

Here is the final component list:

Furman PL-Plus
Korg DTR-1 Pro Tuner
dbx 160X Compressor
TC 1210 Stereo Chorus
A/DA STD-1 Stereo Tapped Delay
TC 2290 Digital Delay
Lexicon PCM70
VHT GP3 Preamp
Audioarts 4100 Parametric Equalizer
Rocktron Hush IIC Noise Reduction
RJM Effect Gizmo
LASD Interface/Dual Parallel Mixer
HH VX-450 Power Amp
CAE RS-10/Expander
Boss FV-300L Volume Pedal
(2) Pacific Woodworks 1x12 Cabs

In the spirit of "one upmanship" and just for fun...

I picked up my first STD-1 for $50.00 usd. (non functional)

Thanks to Gene Brandt, he got her running for a really reasonable amount.

The second one cost me $340.00 (but it is the balanced version).

Fun units that really play with "space".

The STD-1 has been on my "wish list" for a long time. Someone recently offered me one, but it wasn't a good time for me to be spending the cash, and he wasn't interested in any of the items I had available for trade in my shop (which is kind of hard to imagine, but okay...)
